Michael L. King, M.D. is one of the leading and most experienced bariatric surgeons in Mississippi. Dr. King introduced Laparoscopic and Open Roux-en-Y gastric bypass to the north Mississippi area and was the first bariatric surgeon in the area to perform LAP-BAND® surgery, REALIZE™ Band surgery and the laparoscopic Gastric Sleeve procedure.

Having performed over 1500 weight loss surgeries, Dr. King is known throughout not only for his experienced surgical skill, but as a bariatric surgeon with integrity, character and compassion. His record of excellent clinical outcomes and successful patient weight loss experiences speaks to the exceptional and dedicated care that he extends each patient. He is also known for his accomplishment and expertise in general and laparoscopic surgery.

Dr. King is an Alpha Omega Alpha honor graduate of the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He completed his residency at the University of South Alabama Medical Center, where he received the James G. Donald Resident’s Award from the Alabama American College of Surgeons and was published in the American Journal of Surgery. Dr. King is Board Certified by The American Board of Surgery. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the ASMBS. He is a member of the American Medical Association, Southern Medical Association, The American Society of General Surgeons, The Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the Society of American Gastrointestinal Surgeons. He is presently serving as the vice-president of the Mississippi chapter of the American Society of Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery.

Dr. King serves as the Medical Director of Bariatric Services at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi. He has been nationally recognized for high quality care and surgical excellence in bariatric surgery and is a Designated Surgeon deemed a Center of Excellence by the American Society of Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery. Dedicated to improving the health of this patient population, he performs the Laparoscopic and Open Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, the adjustable gastric band – including the LAP-BAND® and the REALIZE™ Band – and the laparoscopic Gastric Sleeve procedure. He also performs revision weight loss surgery, including conversion of the vertical banded gastroplasty to a Roux-en-Y procedure. Revision surgery also includes conversion of a failed adjustable gastric band to a Gastric Sleeve or Roux-en-Y gastric bypass.
